Please help!! Ever since I had my engine changed 2 years ago there has been an audible tapping from my car (sounds like a diesel - it's petrol) which dissappears when the clutch is pressed. I drove around for over a year like this, and after I started to have problems getting in gear I spoke to several mechanics who suggested it was the thrust bearing (same as the release bearing?) I had a new clutch and thrust bearing fitted. 7 months on the clutch failed, apparently something to do with a plate and spring, the guy said it was driver error (releasing clutch too quickly ie foot slipping off!) I didn't buy this but paid for the parts to have it fixed, labour came under warranty - the machanic said he put a new bearing in again. now 4 months on the clutch has failed again. the tapping has stll been present throughout all the repairs.the mechanic is reluctant to replace the thrust bearing again, (not convinced he did last time!) Any suggestions aaaarrrgh!!!! Thank you..
