but the brake light does not come on when brake pedal is pressed. have checked all the fuses and globes all seem to be ok . can some one help please.

Sounds like a shorted out brake light switch. It should be right around the top of the brake pedal and has a little button that the brake pedal pushes in when the pedal is pressed down. There should be power coming in all the time, and power going out "only" when the brake pedal is pressed down. I would start by checking that switch with a test light and go from there. There could also be a bad ground connection somewhere or a short in the ignition switch. In other words check the brake light switch, the ground connections, and the ignition in that order and hopefully along the way you will find the problem. I would recommend getting a repair manual for your car if you are going to do the repairs. The repair manual shows you step by step how to check and test everything. The money you'll save at the shop will be worth the $25.00 you will pay for the repair manual. GOOD LUCK!!
