So I have a 91 Ford Escort LX automatic. When I drive at 35-40mph the engines at about 2000 rpms, and by the time I'm going 55mph my engines revving at about 2600-2800 rpms continuously, and well over 3000 rpms by the time I get to 70mph. This seems high to me, so why might it be doing this? Or am I wrong and this is normal? The transmission seems fine to me other than this.
Also, completely different problem, when I'm in gear (drive or reverse) but stopped, the engine makes this loud rattling sound, it doesn't make it in park, neutral, or when I'm moving over 20mph. Ive been driving it like this for about 5 months and it hasn't gotten worse or anything but I'm just wondering what this might be caused from?

It is an overdrive transmission and Im driving with it in overdrive, when I drive not in overdrive the rpms are even higher
