READ!
The manual didn't say 'put in 1234', it said to enter the first digit with button 1, the second with button 2 & so on.
Your radio code should be on a printed card in with your manuals. If the code is '1234', you'd press button '1' once, so '1' appears in the display, button '2' twice so the display now shows '12' and so on, but your audio manual does tell you how to do this.
If you don't have the card, you'll have to remove the radio & post it's serial number on here & someone will give you the correct code (which obviously won't be '1234'!)
I wasn't being sarcastic, but I can guarantee you didn't read the handbook - I have a Ford audio manual right in front of me, I won't be an 'inappropriate adult'(?!?) by quoting it word for word, but I can assure you that the illustration shows 'CODE 1234', and the text gives very specific info on how to enter the code, which I condensed & gave you.
I apologise if you've taken offence at this, you asked a question & I answered it correctly. That's generally what happens here.
I didn't see the bit about the AA. You're not serious are you?
