Ford Escort battery problems?

I have a Y reg ford escort. I had to replace the alternator a couple of days ago. Once I charged the battery again the car started fine, now the battery is not getting charged and I need to jump start the car every time! Once started though the alternator powers the car electrics fine.
 
then the battery was bad and not the alternator did you have charging system check before you started replacing parts most shop or parts store check system for free but that would be my guess battery is bad not alternator
