Hello,
I have a ford escort 99 and just got in from driving it and while driving it every time I braked it would make a screeching sound on the rear of the car, on exiting the car I noticed the brake light was on, even though I had removed the key from the ignition. I then put the key back in the ignition and started the car and attemped to move the gear box with out pressing the brake pedal and to my astonishment the gear box moved to R, N, D, and overdrive. Could anyone please give me an idea of what is wrong with my car and an estimate on how much fixing it would cost.
It is an automatic transmisson.
