Ford Escape 2003 XLT BREAKS?

Every time I hit the breaks its almost as if the pedal is pushing back up against my foot in pulses, this only happens on the driver side and the steering wheel is awfully noisy when turning. When im reversing and hit the breaks i hear/feel nothing it just fine breaking in reverse. Also the driver side beaks make noise.
Im not sure what the problem is, but all input and suggestions are welcome.
