Ford car problems....?

I own a Ford Crown Vic (police interceptor) and the problem i have is when driving at night the cars headlights will go out for about 2 minutes or so then they come back on. The only way I have lights is if i pull and hold the turn signal arm to make the hi-beam lights go on.

I called a dealership and they said there is no recalls for this and just to start to look at it starts at $100.00 an hour and could go higher if they can't find what's wrong quickly(which wouldn't surprise me).

My brother says that theres a way to have the lights go on when you start the car and just stay on all the time. i might try that.

Any tips on what it might be the problem and some other solutions.
 
I have had that same problem but on a Cougar. It was the headlight switch. Its pretty easy to do yourself too.
