Ford Bronco II gas not reaching engine after driving a few min and/or hot?

When I first start the car, it runs fine. After driving a little while, I will press the gas pedal and it does nothing, but then after a few seconds the car will accelerate/hop forward as though the engine got too much gas...If I am able to get up to a fast speed, the problem often goes away for awhile, but in slow traffic, it will stutter and slow down, then hop forward, then backfire, over and over again until it dies. It will not start again until after it has sat for a few minutes. It seems to be the result of the engine getting hotter, but the engine is NOT overheating at all and is still in the normal range when it does this, so it might not even have anything to do with it. On the interstate, when I can drive 55mph and not have to stop, it doesn't seem to do it all. Again, it could just be a coincedence.

Anyway, if anybody has any ideas of what could be going on, and info would be appreciated.

Thank You :)
