A week ago while driving (stop and go) I noticed my 94 Ford Ranger was suddenly having trouble shifting. I pulled over and found a whole lot of fluid leaking from the front of the transmission. Got it towed home and I took the transmission out of the truck. What do I do now?
Do I replace the front seal myself? Have a shop check it out first to determine what went wrong? Or do I just have a shop replace the seal for me.

if the fluid level was low before you remove the transmission, just replace the seal. if it was low just a little bit, you need to open the transmission and look for damage parts

well its probably not just the seal. very rarley will it just be the seal. the pump bushing is probably bad,and require removing the front pump, installing new bushing gasket and seal. Its not hard to do but I would recomend you take it to a trans shop. you can do it yourself but the trans has to be standing upright,or everything inside will fall out of place when you pull the pump
