Ive got ford ranger with a 5.0L and AOD from a 92 mustang. When i put it into drive it stalls. reverse works fine and if i throw it all the way back to low gear it will run fine. up into second it runs alittle rough and when put into drive it quits. if i manually shift it will drive fine though once the truck is moving. So we went in and took a look and the valve body gasket was shot right at the direct line to governor and also at the direct clutch line. the mechanic thought it might have been a problem with the 3rd gear clutches and friction plates but everything inside was fine. yesterday we put the tranny back in and went to take it for a test drive and its still doing the same thing. im getting pretty pissed and we cant seem to figure out the problem. anyone have any ideas?
