For what purpose might a Japanese-style pattern be used for?

I have to design and find a purpose for an ethnic pattern (I chose Japanese) and state how much it would cost to manufacture. I've thought of origami paper and fans but origami seems to simple and obvious, and I have no idea how to find out how much it would cost to manufacture a 'sensu' silk fan.

Please help with suggestions! It needs to be something I can fairly accurately find out the price for online.
