...why does B cover a bigger range? According to my source (which was kind of dubious), since the volume of mercury in bulb A is larger, it will expand more. Hence a small increase in temperature will result in a larger expansion, hence B would be able to cover a larger range of temperature.
However, I cannot understand the link between volume of mercury in bulb A being larger and the fact that this mercury will expand more.
