So, I am looking to buy my first car. I can only afford a used one, and i came across a 1998 Honca Civic EX 2 door Coupe. My husband owns a 2006 Civic, and he swears by the make and I have seen that he hasn't had any problems with it. Problem is that this particular model has 147, 500 miles on it. So is it really a good buy with so many miles? All input will be helpful. Thanks!
The car is $3,850 at a dealership. The blue book retail value for this car is of $5,840. Also, I do not want to buy an american car if possible. I have read consumer reviews over certain american cars and they were not good at all.

My sister has a 1999 Civic and has that many miles. It's never ran into any mechanical problems, of course we do regular oil changes, etc. I use to have the same Civic, and handed it down to my sister.

Drive the car, you'll see if it has any issues. If it's from a dealer, you should be protected with anti-lemon laws, and if it's private, ask if you can take it to your mechanic for a quick look...if the car is legit, they shouldn't deny.

Depends on the car. The Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, and Nissan would have a much higher milage for that price than say a Chevy or Chrysler. IMVHO.
