I did live on campus, but I also chose to go to a public university in my home state, so the tuition would be lower. That helped.
I got a job once I reached campus. That also helped.
In my sophomore year, I applied to become a resident assistant - that's the student worker who lives on your residence hall and organizes programs for the floor. I got free room for doing that. That helped A TON.
So it can be done.
