When for example in basketball, you see the Philadelphia Sixers are -3.5 and the Kings are +3.5, I understand thats the points difference they need to win by or not lose by.

But whats the difference between +3 and +3.5?

Well if the Sixers win by 3 with a plus three spread, you push and get your money back, and but it the Sixers win by 3 with a 3.5 point spread, you win.

+3.5 means that you can't push. If they lose by 4, you lose. If they lose by 3, you win.

+3 means that if they lose by 4, you lose. If they lose by 3, you push and get your money back. If they lose by 2 you win.
