I have a debate in class coming up, and my side is arguing that the death penalty should stay. I can guarantee that the opposition will say "Putting murderers to death is wrong; we'd only be stooping down to their level". This is one of the only sides I can't come up with an argument against. What can I say?
As good as I hope it is, "an eye for an eye" probably won't help because I'm sure the opposition will say that "revenge won't make our society more just. Ending violence with violence will only lead to more violence".
As well, I've learned that pursuing death penalty cases in courts actually costs more than keeping them in jail for life.
