for most retailers how many call outs?

for most retailers and businesses and restuarants, HOW MANY callouts are you allowed? If you call out once (call before your shift and say you can't make it) what happens, what if you do it twice, what if you do it three times. How many do most places (Retailers, hotel estabilishments, businesses, restuarants) allow?
