For guys over their exs would you walk up and chat with them?

Me and my ex were best friends when we were going out but it just didn't feel right. I know we are better off being good friends and I don't acceot his behaviour around other girls (personally but I know there are girls who are ok with this) so I broke it off with him but he told me that he can't be friends as it would hurt him too much. He mentioned we can either be gf/bf or nothing at this moment in time and that he needs time to be friends after our break up which is understandable. It's been 3 months since we've talked and he seems happy when he's talking to his friends so i think he's over me but I don't want to talk to him just in case he isn't but I don't know what to do. Would he walk up and talk to me if he is over me??
 
just talk to him. dont analyze it too much. Im good friends with my ex and even her current bf of 2yrs. I went out with her for 5yrs and was very sad when we broke up. It took time but now im over it, we're mates and there is no uncomfortableness
