- I do not know the answer and I am unable to get it from MLB -
-- Remember this is when there was NO Central Division --
When MLB went to the "Best of 7 Series" in 1985 --
In the AL, the East started with home-field advantage E-E-W-W-W-E-E
Toronto (East) started Game 1 at Home over Kansas City (West)
In the NL, the West started with home-field advantage W-W--E-E-E-W-W
L.A. (West) started Game 1 at Home over St. Louis (East)
So far, so good...
However -- In 1986, the exact same was repeated !!
Boston (East) started Game 1 at Home over California Angels (West)
Houston (West) started Game 1 at Home over N.Y. Mets (East)
As opposed to alternating, as tradition was; and has always been.
In 1987, the home field advantage was Finally reversed; and has alternated ever since then, with only the 1994 strike season, altering the sequence.
Why ?
If you need more specific information -- I can give you the every detail.
If you can figure-this-out -- Bless You -- I have been driven Mad
