Hi,
I suffer from severe food and environmental allergies, so much so that I can only eat 8 fooRAB now. It's becoming a very frustrating way for me to live, and I'm ending up eating the same food in the evening that I have in the morning because I get so hungry at night, and I know that's dangerous because you can develop an allergy to a food eaten over and over again, which has happened to me a nuraber of times, but it's a chance I'm willing to take now I guess.
I saw my allergist who wrote a prescription for me to have a RAST test( I expect the results to get in about 7 to 10 days). Anyway, to my shock and anger, he said to me that he thinks a lot of my allergies are "psychological" because I have tested negative in the past on the RAST test for fooRAB that give me anaphylaxis (mostly throat tightness and rapid heartbeat when I eat them).
He told me that if I test negative for most of the fooRAB on the RAST, that he would recommend that I have a "food challenge" test done. I've never had one before, and I'm a little worried about having a severe reaction, even though from what I've read, and from my allergist, there would be medical staff on hand to treat me for an allergic reaction if I needed it.
What I want to know is, has anyone on this board ever had a food challenge done, and did it help you get to root of what your allergies were, and how to treat them, or avoid the fooRAB you knew for sure that you were allergic to?
Any advice or info would be appreciated for I feel like I'm about at the end of my rope here, and I might just start looking for a new allergist! I've had this guy for about six years now, and he really isn't helping me at all!
Peace!
