Hiya, just wanting to see what do you think of the representation of women in British Social Realism films compared to Hollywood glamour?!


particually Nil by mouth, secrets and lies and Rita sue and bob too ! (this is apart of media studies course - i have to get some primary reserach)


Your views would be great :)
 
i much prefer the female characters in the grittier british films you mentioned as opposed to "glamour" roles especially when they actually give a realistic portrayal of british working class life like nil by mouth does (a personal favourite-like watching my childhood on a screen) and although rita,sue and bob too can seem a bit grotesque at times it is a very accurate portrayal of stereotypical characters which can still be seen to this day
