I have had this "thing" pop out of my lower back on the left side whenever I take a deep breath. None of the doctors can figure out what it is, I have had many X-Rays done and they show nothing. The doctors can feel it pop, but can't say what it definately is. One said it may be a floating rib popping out, I just can't imagine it would do this so frequently. I have not been in any accidents and this came out of the blue.
I just don't even know what kind of doctor to go to about this. I have been to my pulmonologist, my internest, and to the ER.
I'm stumped!!!!!!
Any advice???
Thanks

Hi,

If you think it's a bone popping out of place, how about trying an orthopedic specialist? Their area of expertise is musculo-skeletal problems. If you have something rare, it might be something that a specialist would recognize even if other doctors don't know what it is...

I had the same problem and still do. When I lay down, I have ribs on both sides that pop. After going to the doctors, she recommended that I have an x-ray. The x-ray showed that those ribs that were popping out, were extra floating ribs. Normally, people are supposed to have 2 floating ribs on each side. Instead, I have 4 on each side. It just means that those ribs are not connected to the sternum by any cartilage.
Hope this helps! :)
