Flat iron v.s Ceramic iron?

I am buying a new hair straightner this weekend. What is the difference between a flat irong and ceramic iron? which one is better for my hair? Also what is the best hair striaghtner out there I can purchase at Ulta for under $30.00? Something that wont damage my hair reduce frizz and straightens my hair quickly. I have long thick hair so i need something more than just 1in
