flash video in html ?

hello. here is my situation. i have started to make a web page using html in notepad so i put in some text and a couple of pictures using the relevent tags i have a folder to save it all in (webstuff) so i hit save and refresh i e browser to view the progress....marvelouse, just as i wanted the text and colors etc i dont have a website or domain or isp or host or anything yet but i can still see what it will look like, brilliant! . now i'd like to put a short video on there it's called "myvid.flv" and it's in my webstuff folder but after pasting numerous codes from reccommended sites and adjusting the src to myvid the closest i can get is a blank area where the vid should be. i must be missing the point completely i've spent hours researching how to do this with no success at all. is it possible to see a video in this way? the same as if i add an <img= src"image.gif"> then press refresh and it appears. hope it doesn't sound patronizing just giving a run through of my problem.
