Flash Player 9 or Higher?! This is very important for my work I need it asap.?

After finally clicking on the Adobe pop-up window update reminder to install updates, I can no longer play videos. Everytime on youtube, I am told to download and install Flash Player 9 or higher, I did! I still cannot play and get the same instructions even after restarting. How can I play video again? This is very important for my work I need it asap.
