Just noticed on an email from Sendit.com that Flash Gordon is being released on Blu Ray on 23 August. Its the 30th anniversary edition. It seems to be the cheapest on pre-order at
That is one of my favourite films - love the soundtrack, script and memories attached to it. I remember when it first came out and Peter Duncan on Blue Peter spoke about it. I have the soundtrack album and I really must buy the film. I don't have a Blu-Ray player though - VHS or DVD.
Very tempting, as it appears to have a good transfer, and new DTS-HD sound, but lacking in extras, even ones that have appeared on previous dvd versions, such as the excellent Brian Blessed commentary track.
Jesus! 30 years old! I remember seeing it at the cinema, then chuffed to bits when BBC premiered it on TV years later.
Its cheesy but still one of my favourite films. The soundtrack is superb. I've got it on VHS, DVD so what the hell lets go HD as well.
Would love to hear what Sam J Jones sounded like before they redubbed his voice. Was he really that bad or did he just have the looks but not the voice?
Plus, whatever happened to the remake that was due out two years ago?
As a 30th anniversary edition however, it's pretty weak on extras. It just has an interview and commentary from the director, and the soundtrack to the film. And that's it.
Maybe they'll shell out for a better package for Flash's 50th?!
It'll be worth seeing on Blueray for the sets and costumes alone. Both stunning. Shame they didn't spend the same amount of care on the story, the dialogue or the acting, but you can't have everything!
Saw some of the blu ray at a mate's yesterday and was a bit disappointed with it. Some of the picture is a lot better and clearer than the DVD, other bits look really bad. There seems to have been quite a lot of DNR applied.
