and it may make a shortcut in your "recent" folder but the shortcut references the flash drive
 
...inserted into the usb port? Can you tell what files were on the drive or just the ones that were accessed while the drive was connected? If a snap shot was taken of the flash drive can you retrieve erased files? Can you even tell if a flash drive has been inserted into your computer?
