Flash CS3: how to edit buttons in one scene without affecting the other.?

i've duplicated a scene to make a new page for my website in order to maintain the template.
i would like to edit the button symbols in this new page, but i found that it also affects the buttons in the original scene.
how do i go about doing this separately without compiling the new page from scratch.
