I've had chronic GERD for 12+ years and was 95% controlled w/ prilosec 20 mg a day up until about 4 mos. ago. Since then I've tried bumping the prilosec to 40 mg, protonix 80 mg, and now prevacid 60 mg a day, and none of them seem to be working much anymore. I've got daily heartburn, nausea, chest/back pain, burning in the throat etc.
I'm really getting worried as I don't want to have to face surgery unless I'm completely out of other options. Has anyone else had an experience like this, where they have a rough time for several months, but then eventually are able to get back on the PPIs successfully? I'm hoping this is some kind of flare-up, but it's seeming more and more like a permanent change in my condition, which really scares me.
