Can any one please explain why Bell will not offer the canucks vs flames game in Hd on snetw but it will have it on snetp in hd. The game is on ch 408 which is snetw.

This to me makes no sence at all & Am contemplating on switching to shaw who carries snetw hd 24/7

If you switch to Shaw who has Sportsnet HD West, the Flames/Canucks game will still not be in HD. The Canucks broadcast will be doing the game on SNETP in HD, however, the Flames production crew, as far as I know, is not doing the game in HD for SNETW, which is why it isn't available on Bell, or any other provider.

You would think that snet would just use 1 crew and simulcast the game on both feeds

Can't see that being true as they can broadcast the same CBC game with each market inserting their own local commercials.

Also I don't see any problem with two audio broadcast crews picking up the same video. Don't they do it all the time for international sports?

To add, channel 408 says the game is available in HD on 849 although so far, it isn't listed on 849 on my TV.

Well it's 5 minutes before game time and bell has updated the guide ch 849 will carry the game. Thank god.

Sportsnet could use the same HD feed for both channels, but it would require a non-biased play by play and color commentator to do the game. Calgary and Vancouver have their own broadcast crews and they are automatically biased to their own teams.

Well they did end up broadcasting the game in HD for both zones with separate play by play and colour commentators but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts they used the same HD video feed.

I guess they could get an neutral play by play guy but it wasn't needed. I don't think it's that hard to overdub the video.
The little old goalie with the mustache, colour guy for Vancouver this game also has been doing Calgary games for years, so he's no problem.

Are you sure? Why did TSN have SD WS highlights then? The highlights for the game on Sportsnet Pacific were in HD.

Yeah, I'm sure. Here's a Flames board thread on the matter.
