Flames coming out of dirt bike exhaust ?

Hello i recently looked at a dirt bike 04 Yamaha 250f im getting tomorrow (Sunday), anyway it was a yoshimura exhaust carbon fiber and it was triangular shaped, my question is why is there flames when i rev the bike? do i need a spark arrester or need to pack it? btw it has not been packed since 04
