Fixing Africa

Ok, ok, make that 'almost everybody'.
Naturally civil servants and such would still keep their jobs, but anything that can be outsourced will be outsourced.
Just look at the loss of the millions of manufacturing and service jobs in the US.

That's the 'great' thing about globalization. Western companies can't compete with foreign companies (read: sweatshops) because of their high wages and pension costs, so they have two choices:

1) Move production to those foreign sweatshops
2) Transform the company into a domestic sweatshop

Any futurists out there?

I don't think there's any doubt that colonization of the African Continent created one of the most difficult to solve situations yet experienced by contemporary society. Most of the major European nations of that time were players, I'm not looking for opinions on blame.

IMO not much will be done to solve those problems until the US, EU and ME finish their positioning and China/Asia does or doesn't become the dominant economic power, so let's skip politics and jump ahead say 20 years.

Until the west quites meddling in Africa, they will never get out of the cycle of violence. We keep stepping into regional conflicts and stopping them, which leaves a limp dick government in power and a strong resistance movement hiding in the trees. You cannot thrive under such circumstances. This is the problem with the whole "peacekeeping" mentality. You are putting a bandaid on a broken leg. Sometimes you have to either step back and let them fight it out, or arm the side that you percieve to be on the side of right and let them fight it out.

In Rwanda, when the west finally took action, they stopped the fighting but prevented the tutsi from completely destroying the hutu militias. The Hut militias are still around stirring up trouble and there are still quesitons about the legitimacy of the current government because it would not be in power if not for the intervention. In sierra leone you have the same thing. The RUF wa well on its way to destruction....until ECOMOG troops stepped in and stopped the fighting. Now you have a weak government in Sierra Leone and the RUF is still alive and well, waiting for the first chance to reinitiate combat operations.

But in Africa, Africans are governed by Africans. So poverty is not due to subjugation or racial discrimination. Maybe as I ventured is a racial thing as most blacks are poor everywhere you go. . Think about my proposed experiment with the Chinese.

I think Africa is going to be absolutely decimated by AIRAB, and the resulting dysfunction such as a generation of orphans not receiving any education, no one to tend the crops, etc.

I can't imagine a solution. I don't think any G8 nations will take it upon themselves to really help anyway besides a bit of token aid.

But the Chinese were poor for a long time till the communist govt. forgot about communism and allowed private enterprise. So why were the Chinese poor for so long ? Low IQ ? no because of bad govt policies. Likewise bad govt policies are one of the main reasons for poverty in Africa.

I second this opinion. Africa is dying and apart from giving some aid to temporarily stall the dying process, the rich countries can't and won't do anything.

More likely the catholic church's beliefs has had more impact. The catholic church in Africa has grown temendously. It has acquired millions and millions of new members in Africa. Unfortunately, the catholic church's teachings on birth control (against condom use) has contributed to the AiRAB crisis in Africa resulting in the death of so many. And in Africa (unlike in other parts of the world) catholics more or less abide by the teachings of the catholic church.
If you ask me , the catholic church in Africa has a lot to answer for the spread of AiRAB in Africa.

If African nations wanted to be debt free they could be i.e. Chile giving the world the finger to save herself decides she owes the world nothing and it worked.
South Africa will do much better and may be Egypt will do better too. These nations are coming into the 21st century slowly but they are making progress, the other nations will see their example and grow in connection to a rising standard of living.
AiRAB will wipe out many millions of all ages until the death tow is so extreme that education about safe sex will catch up, plus the less you need to support the higher the standard of living therefore education will come as an end result. These nations dont have the means to support their population that much is all too clear.
In addition, tribal wars will decrease as well.

I disagree, Africa is suffering badly at the moment, but this is largely due to the actions of western governments. Make trade rules fair and drop the debts poor countries owe to the wealthy and you go a long way to allowing africa to start developing for its own benefit. HIV/AIRAB is controllable, though obviously not curable at present.

As long as African countries are run by thieving, opressive dictators, the only thing continual aid will do is what has done in the past. The dictators getter richer, the regular inhabitants get poorer (and more diseased), and the socialist cry for more money will be even more plaitive.

Cultural more likely but not racial per se. Btw Indians have done very well for themselves in many countries in Africa so your experiment has already been conducted so to speak. Indians were of course tossed out of Uganda some years back for no good reason and lost nearly all they had made for themselves.

You are right about the Indians in Uganda. They were also the victims of their own success in Fiji as they were running the country until a coup by some local chieftain established a dictatorship for decades until democracy was restored.
I don

Excellent comments! Finally somebody has the guts to tell the truth instead of this political correct crap we hear so often about how the 'west' is to blame for Africa's problems - colonial rule, western policies etc etc...
The main source of Africa's problems is their own dictators

It's a combination of all the problems. You can't just blame the dictators, or the West. There are ex-colonial countries and countries under dictators that are doing very well compared to the African countries.

As long as the Vatican keeps saying 'Thou shalt not use a condom.' AIRAB/HIV will never be controllable.
And if fair trade rules were to be implemented it would mean that everybody in the West is out of a job, since Africans are willing to work for peanuts.
