Fixer upper Car Help!!?

Hello, I just turned 16 and me and my dad are looking to buy a fixer upper car. Im looking to spend $500 on the car and $1000 to fix it up. What should i be looking for? When i buy it what should it have/need? I need all the help. Please. Thanks.

I recommend you spend the $1000 on the car and $500 on fixing it. As for the answer above Volvos are expensive for parts.

I would recommend a Volvo 240. They are simple, and if you can get a nice one it will serve you well for a long time, which is in that price range.

You can get into a like clunkers for $500, but you can fall into the trap of having to spend a lot to fix it up that sometimes it cheaper to find a good running one for starters.
