Fixed my bad water pump, but car still overheats. Its ok when idling, but when

CRACKED HEAD or bad head gasket. Dont drive it no more or you will damage the cylinder walls or rings. Check the oil if its coffee brown or if you see bubbles- then you have water or coolant in the oil. Replace the head and check the gaskets. Get the heads resurfaced and a new head gasket. Most of the times the heads are un-repairable so you might be ready for that news. Depends on what vehicle you drive the head and gasket service go between $400-$1300. The high $ number is if you need to replace the whole valve train or heads. Good luck!
 
gassed temp. rises fast. ? I checked the thermostat and it is working fine. What else could be wrong? Clogged radiator? Cracked head?
 
When the engine is cold remove the radiator cap and start the engine and let it idle,notice the water level in the radiator and top it up carefully,if the system has been drained for you to change the water pump it may not be quite full or air locked,when you are satisfied that the system is full replace the radiator cap and see if that has solved the problem.make sure that all hoses are properly tightened and if the Temperature rises above normal again turn of the engine and check the radiator by putting you hand down the front of it to see if it is hot all over.if it is cold when the engine shows overheating it is likely that the thermostat has packed in
 
The simplest fix is to make sure all air is out of the system.

Some vehicles have bleeder valves at a high point in the system to release trapped air. Others are designed to self bleed. Make sure your thermostat isn't installed backwards, it is possible in some cars.

It's possible that some coolant passages are clogged, a flush will take care of that. It's also possible that an old hose is de-laminating. Some times the inner layer of a hose, usually the bottom radiator hose, peels from the rest of the hose and blocks the flow at higher speeds.

A cracked block or blown head gasket can be checked by using a combustion gas detector on the radiator, and looking for coolant in the oil. It will show up as milky white oil.
