Fitting a Vista Cruise Control

I've ordered a Vista Universal Cruise Control and notice the pictures show the rigid mounting bracket is supposed to fit between the throttle assembly and the front brake reservoir/assembly.

The gap between those two on my bike (2005 C50) appears too narrow.

Is it an issue to loosed that reservoir/brake mechanism and move it a bit to the left to make room?

Let's see:

  • GE 4411 sealed beam light bulbs arrived today..
  • vista Cruise control arrived today...
  • Rode to Walmart & picked up 4 qrts of Rotella 15W40 Heavy Duty...
  • Rode to the dealership to pick up some gear fluid...

Looks like I have a fun Saturday morning ahead of me...:D
 
Mobile 1 synthetic gear lube from any autoparts store (and likely walmart) will work just fine for the final drive.



3 reasons I prefer the Vista to what you linked.

1) I can disengage my Vista just as fast as anybody can disengage that one if both our hands are on the throttle. I move my thumb barely and can disengage mine, whereas with the Breakaway, one must move fingers to cover the break lever to do the same (or release as I do wit thumb I believe).

2) My Vista was $31.95. The Breakaway is $199+.

3) You linked to one at Direct Line parts....and I'll give none of my money to its owner willingly.

Oh, and by the way, the Breakaway isn't new....it's been around for years as well.
 
I rotated mine down, so that the "cross-over bar" is just above the start switch. With it there I can flick it on and off easily with my thumb. With it on top like you have it (and I did at first), you have to choose in an emergency to either grab the brake or flick off the throttle lock - it's difficult to do both at the same time. With it down you use fingers for the brake and thumb for the Vista - both at the same time if necessary.

FWIW - When you push the lever down it locks quite tightly - the only way to release it is to do it manually; if you flick it up, it has less of a grip and can come off almost by itself if you hit a bump or sometimes even by twisting the throttle. I never leave mine on for very long - usually only on straight roadways with no intersections in sight and only for a few seconds while I get the knots out of my arm/fingers. I love my Vista but you have to keep in mind what it is - a throttle lock, not a cruise control.

That's exactly how I ended up installing it.

Sliding the brake mechanism over was no problem.

Yeah...definitely only to be used for very brief periods in clear driving conditions. But what a world of difference on extended rides.
 
Enjoy your vista cruise,I really like mine,it sure helps on those cold mornings when you need too relax your hand and flex your fingers a bit,without losing your speed.
 
I just did a 2100 mile ride to Key West and back on my C50 - would never have made it without the vista cruise. Probably one of the best things I've added to my bike!
 
Hands down of all the things I have and plan to add, I think the vista cruise control was the biggest bang for the buck. I just added mine last weekend and I love it. So simple yet so useful. I rate this as a must have.:bluethum::bluethum:
 
Here's a picture of my Vista cruise control. I have since, loosened up the screws and rotated the lever up a bit to give my thumb more room for the starter switch.....I never use my kill switch anyway...

I like to place my hand just under the rear of the gas tank and let the engine warm up my digits for a mile or two. Also do this when idling at a traffic light.
