When ever I buy fish tank plants from the store, I put them in the fish tank, then all of these snails start over populating the tank. How can I get rid of the snails/snail eggs from the plant before I put it in the tank.

Or are the snails supposed to be there?

I'm kind of new at owning fish :]

Thanks :D

Wait for them to grow just a little, then pick them out and ask the pet store if you can feed them to their Big Golds.

When you buy a new plant, dip it in a bowl or picture of salt water. The snails will drop off. Then rinse the plants thoroughly to remove the salt.

No, not supposed to unless you want them there lol. You need to give the plants a dip in either a mild bleach water solution, or a potassium permanganate dip. Here's a link with more info and directions:

You can get potassium permanganate at pet stores, I've only seen it at mom and pop type of stores, and I've recently learned that the Jungle Labs Clear Water or Water Clear product contains it. I don't nomrally recommend that stuff for clearing or clarifying your water, but for what you want it for, it's ok to use. Just be careful with the P.P. it's potent sh*t lol.
