fish tank has green spots on inside?

my 6 foot tall fish tank (cold water) has green algae spots all over the inside, and it is a job to use the magnets and clean, and scraping it is almost impossible, so is there any other treatment to get this off since the pleco ( algae eater) doesn't keep this part clean? It is so cold, I hate to take it out and do the big clean. It is acrylic and easy to scratch. Please let me know if you have a good solution to this. I do my part of the water exchanges, but this time the spots are terrible. Thanks for your help. It is not in direct light and I haven't kept the light on in it any more then usual. Is there a light that might help fight this?
 
Its only algae, every fish tank gets this, all you have to do is clean out the fish tank.

They say on there for acrylic tanks, use a plastic razor blade to remove it. I had a small 10 gallon glass tank with it, couldn't get it off. I gave up lol. I ended up adding some Malaysian trumpet snails to the tank, and they miracuously got it off. Not sure how well they'd fair though in a cool water tank though. Usually best way though, is manual labor :)
 
It's green spot algae (clever name huh?). The only thing that will remove it is elbow grease with the magnets. If they don't remove it how do you expect a pleco or other algae eater is meant to? It is very robust algae that algae eaters don't eat for this reason.

FYI Plecos AREN'T coldwater, they're tropical fish that need a tropical set up.

Make sure your water parameters are correct, algae is caused by excess nutrients, in a 6ft tall tank it's going to be tricky to do proper gravel vacs so make sure you're getting the gunk out. I don't recommend chemicals to try and get rid of it, these are more likely to cause more problems than they solve.
