I would like to take sugestions on what fish you would keep in a 55 gal reef tank. I need ideas of fish combo. Idea #1 was 2 clown fish and a goby. #2 was 3 samll yellow tang. Any other idea is welcome. Thanks

How about blue tangs? I love them, I just love all Tangs to be honest. Royal Gramma's are pretty too and go really well with Yellow Tangs. And Domino Damsels go well with Clown Fish.

I don't have a reef aquarium anymore (couldn't keep up with the workload it required), now I just have a tropical tank...wish I still had the reef though.

Good luck

For beginner like you.

Is better to start-up with common clownfish (scientific name Amphiprion ocellaris)

This fish are hardy and easy to keep compared to other marine fish.

And it is also among the easiest marine fish to maintain, feed, and breed.

The common clownfish is ideal for keeping with invertebrates such as shrimp.

Their diet are omnivorous and like most meaty foods such as shrimp, mussel and also take flakes food.

And require water condition :

Temperature 24-26 C (75-79 F); pH 8.3-8.4; SG 1.023-1.027.

After you mastered the technique you can keep Domino (scientific name Dasyyllus trimaculatus) and Blue devil (scientific name Pomacentrus coeruleus)

Hope you like my advise and opinion given.

Good luck with your new fish and fishkeeping hobby:)

No Tang they require 75 gallon tanks or larger so that is out of the question also what kind of goby and what type of clownfish do you plan to put in the 55 gallon? Ok so here is a better idea:
-A mated pair of tank bred ocellaris clownfish
-Royal Gramma Basslet
-Randall's goby
-3-4 Orange Lined Cardinalfish
-Six line Wrasse
This should probably fill out your tank and they are reef compatible and great for beginners also if your would like to search on them here:
