fish breeding problem.?

I have a male betta fish, i would like to find a female betta so i can breed them. i went to the pet store today and they wouldn't tell me what kind of female i can get because it's not there job to tell you because they might loss there sales. but the question is can i use any female betta or do i need to find a crown tail female that is in color to him and what if i buy her and they don't like one another then what. he is red.... please no one answer if you don't know thank you
