Im going to be buying a Nokia N73 Soon and i wanted to ask a few questions before i do it. I am going to be buying it from hi mobile. Will i be getting a factory unlocked and unbranded device? Anybody have any trouble buying from hi mobile? , are there any compatibility issues with using the device with cingular? I've never purchased an unbranded device so im excited to finally do it. Any other tips you guys can give me? thanks

I cannot speak to Hi-Mobile, but can state that I've been using an unbranded N73 on Cingular (as well as T-Mobile) for about seven months. I have had no issues.

i used hi mobile and they were pretty good and yes you get a unlocked/unbranded phone

i have tmo so i wouldnt know how the settings and everything works but mine works fine with tmo

Don't buy from hi-mobile. They're reputable, but they'll charge you $80 for shipping. It's ridiculous. Shop from plemix.com, x1387 on ebay, or phonesource-usa.com.

I also recommend the N73 over the K790a, since they're both about the same price. It makes more sense to me to grab a smartphone over a dumbphone if they both cost the same amount. The only advantage the K790a has is that xenon flash, but the N73's camera is still amazing.

MMS on any phone not among Cingular's approved phones (i.e., ones they brand and sell) will dumb down the graphics for MMS. So, yes, the size of the picture received is small when compared to a size it would be if it was received on a Cingular-recognized phone.

I have no issues with RAM on my phone. I store most of my applications on my memory card. I rarely see "out of memory" errors on my N73. It's not like the old days with Symbian, where a memory problem would crop up way too often.

I use my handset pretty extensively as a smart phone. Lot's of web browsing, running applications, loading applications at start-up (call filtering, etc.), and Java apps.

RAM is completely different from the phone's internal memory. It doesn't matter if you fill both the built-in 45mb AND your 2gb card with installed applications, videos, images, mp3's, or whatever else; your 20 or so megs of RAM is only used for running the applications, just like any computer.

In any case, with firmware updates, I can only assume the N73 has gotten better. The last I used mine was with an old firmware which I was stuck with from iunlock.com, and even that version ran fairly well. Newer versions are probably even better.

I bought my first N73 from Hi-mobile and would highly suggest them. I don't recall paying $80 for shipping, but I shop differently online. I look at the total out of pocket cost. Who cares if they charge you $100 for the phone and $400 for shipping, or $500 for the phone and free shipping? You're still paying $500, either way.

You'll love the N73. MMS works, but you get smaller versions of pics and videos get stripped out. It's like that with ANY unbranded phone on Cingular, Cingular's fault, not Nokias.

I can also recommend hi-mobile, and I don't remember paying $80 for shipping, I recall it being resonable. As for working with Cingular, I'm on t-mo but I did put a buddies Cingular sim in once (to show him the advantage of unlocked phones) and it work fine, but I did not test MMS, just SMS and a phone call.

I've checked their prices for an N73 several times, and every time, the price starts at a little under $395 or so and when I go to checkout, the only shipping option is $80+ for a 2 day service. If it were $320+80 shipped, that'd be different, but their prices are on par with other cheap sellers as it is, but then go $50 over the norm with an outstanding shipping fee. I'm sure they're reputable, but I wouldn't buy from them for that one bogus shipping reason. Check it out, I'm not trying to lie to you guys.

Not trying to call you a liar. This is why I shop like I do online. I'll pull up several sites and go through the full checkout process. See who has the lowest bottom line. Do the same on ebay.

That's what I used to do almost daily for the brown N73 I couldn't find for $400 shipped. The closest was always x1387/plemix when he had them in stock for $430 shipped. Then I saw hi-mobile, for $395+shipping and I got really excited!. . . Until I went through checkout and it added 80 bones.

They're just trying save on Ebay fees. I don't blame them for trying to ease the pain of the vice grip of that internet tryrant: Ebay. If you've sold on Ebay, you'd see how much they screw you for, because of their de facto monopoly. If you sell a $400 phone a good $35+ gets eaten up by Ebay + Paypal fees. So you get $365. If the fees were a little more reasonable you might be able to buy things on Ebay for a good deal less. Anyway, I buy stuff on Ebay only for unique hard to find items.

It actually so easy, because you can customize your view to even show you shipping while you browse. Just like pricegrabber that shows you your "bottomline" price. I hate it when a site makes you put your whole address in just to see shipping. I usually put BS info in when I check.
