I have recently written a short story that I would like to submit to a literary publication. This would be my first time. My stomach is pretty much braced for rejection, so that's not the source of my apprehension. I am more along the lines of--confused and undecided.
The story I have written is indeed fiction, but it's not a science fiction, fantasy or horror story. It's more of a contemporary coming of age story. The publications I have happened upon usually call for science fiction, fantasy or horror. And the other publications boast intimidating fees and pretentious bloviations about the high quality authors they receive and/or look for.
If you have any suggestions on publications I should be looking at, or on submitting for the first time, your contributions would be greatly appreciated.
