Hi there, my family is going to be adding me onto their family plan for 9.99 extra. Can I buy a phone online or do I need to go to the store and get the phone? Looks like I have to sign a 2 year individual contract if I buy online? Can I buy a phone online and then merge into their contract? Wirefly/Letstalk

Also if I add the BB data plan will it renew their contract for another 2 years?

Most carriers you have to do a 2 year contract, at which point they will subsidise your phone purchase quite heavily. If you plan to purchase your own phone online, just pick any of their 'free' phones and keep that as a backup. But you need to make sure the phone you buy online is compatible with your carrier (a cingular phone will not work on a sprint, etc.). The best price will most likely be the online subsidised price when you add on a phone.
 
Yes you can add another line. I have never had Cingular "add" time on my contract when I switch plans....I have had Tmobile do it to me tough (that was like 3 years ago)....
