First generation phones?

I sometimes hear people staying away from "first generation" products, like avoiding the first year a new model of car was made, or the first model of any particular electronic device. I never heard of people avoiding first generation phones until I joined HoFo. Has/does anyone here own a "first generation" type of their phone and do you have any problems with it?

Sorry if I got this in the wrong section and if its been asked before... I searched.
