The 50th anniversary of CinemaScope is being celebrated as part of the Bradford Film Festival's, (14-29 March), 'Widescreen Weekend', 21-24 March, at the National Museum of Photography Film and Television. The first ever CinemaScope film, 'THE ROBE' will be presented on Staurday evening at 8.15 in Pictureville Cinema. Also showing over the weekend are two of Cinerama's best three-strip films, 'Search for Paradise' and 'Cinerama Holiday', also in Pictureville Cinema which is the world's only permanently equipped cinema for three-strip Cinerama. Cinerama is now in its 51st year and was the process that led to all modern widescreen processes.

Also showing over the weekend will be, '2001, A Space Odyssey', 'Silk Stockings', 'Spartacus', and in 70mm, 'The King & I' and 'The Deer Hunter'. Bookings can be made now and more information is available at http://www.nmsi.ac.uk/nmpft/

Believe me, it is well worth a trip to the museum at any time. There are three cinemas including the UK's oldest IMAX-3D. 'Widescreen weekend' is briliant and Sunday morning's 'Cineramacana' is a pot-pourri of bits and pieces of movies that are unique or long-lost and now found! It's worth going if only to see Cinerama's one and only 'commercial' for Renault which ususally gets shown. Pictureville cinema is capable of presenting all movie and sound formats ever invented! I know seats are selling fast for the Cinerama movies but many people do manage to get one on the day.
