I got an updated MRI (last was Jan. 09). The results will be in on Monday,I have the disc actually. I looked up the MRI images and compared them to online mri images.. And I know a little at what I am looking at because of before. Anyway, they don't look good at all. So Monday I will find out if I need surgery, which I think that is what will happen. I have been in so much pain the last few days/nights that it has affected my sleeping.

For the past 2 weeks my left hand has been nurab so I will also be finding out what is wrong or hopefully finding out what is wrong there.

question: For those of you that have had surgery, when you first were told you needed it, about how long was it until your actual surgery?

I will find out Monday, I would like to finish out my college semester to Dec. 17th. However I don't want them to think I am faking my pain because it surely is not that at all. I am in terrible pain. I was just wondering if I am told on Monday I need surgery, about how long to expect it to happen. Because I know there will be appointments in the mean time right?

thank you for any input.

Hi. A lot depenRAB on the doctors schedule as to when he can do the surgery. But it sounRAB to me that you maybe should not put it off if the doctor tells you that you have nerves being pinched. The nurabness you describe is usually caused by nerve compression and the longer a nerve is pinched, the more chance of permanent damage. And take it from me, that is NOT something you want to chance.

Three months is quite a bit of time, but perhaps your dr will feel it's okay to wait; following his advice would be the best thing.

Please post and let us know what he says. Good luck!

Carol, Thank you. The nurabness in my hand is my left hand and it's my pinky and ring finger and the side of my left palm.
Back pain/leg pain, is my right side.

I will definitely go on the advice of the doctor. I never broke a bone, had IV or a surgery before so all of this is new to me.

Thank you again. And I will update tomorrow after my class. :)

Well, update I have 4 slipped discs, there is some slight improvement from my year and a half old mri to the recent MRI, so the doctor is sending me for another series of cortozone shots. The doctor even mentioned that he isn't sure why I am experiencing soo much pain in my leg. This was mentioned before when this all started almost 2 yrs ago. So, I don't know either but I do know the pain is there and just like this past week there are days that I can barely walk and it's very very bad.
As for the nurabness in my pinky n ring finger on my left hand. He said that I am to try my best to keep my arm straight and down as much as possible. And that he will see me in 2 months as there isn't much he can do right now being it only been nurab for 2 weeks. This is hard being, one I am a computer major in college, two, I'm always on the computer at home, one the sofa which I am only limited to the right side since my sister has the left said and I lean a lot on my left since the pain is on my right. So I have little to no chance of actually straightening my arm at all times.

Well that is all I have. I don't understand it but it is what it is.
