Finding Anime Names & General Anime Q&A

Please use this thread to find anime, manga or character names

---

I made this thread because I realized there was a lot of "What does anime mean?" and "What does OVA mean?" and other threads like that. It usually takes only ONE reply to a thread like that to answer the question. Made me think it was rather pointless to waste the time making the thread in the first place.

So that's where this thread comes in. This is the place to ask questions like "what does anime mean?" and all the other general questions about anime.

Anime newbies unite! You know have a place to talk about these things!

ALSO: This thread is also now the place to ask about those old animes you can't remember the names of as well as characters. The "Find Anime Series Names" thread has been deleted and this one will take it's place.

REMEMBER: NO discussion about how or where to download anime on the net! Such talk is forbidden on A4.

Also, here are some quick Anime FAQs written by Aiodaisei:

108 - This number is lucky.
801 - This number is unlucky.

might as well add a few things

OVA - or OAV, this means Original Video Animation , this basically means the anime was directly converted into a Video format and not released on TV first. Good Example of this is, Furi Kuri

Anime - Japanese Cartoons, you should really know what this is. Example: Almost anything, like Pokemon

Manga - Japanese Comic Books. Example: Again, almost anything, like Love Hina Manga

Hentai - Anime porn

Ecchi - 'Softer Hentai', usually anime which shows some nudity or lots of panties e.g. Najica Blitz Tactics

Otaku - Hardcore anime fan.

Shonen - Anime strictly for boys

Shojo - Anime strictly for girls

*probably add some more later, have to go somewhere...

Well, I guess this goes in here.

I have a question. Why is it that most anime opening themes is cut to almost EXACTLY one minute and 30 seconds? That is the case with about 95% of ALL animes. If you look one the timer and count on it or have the song on your Winamp, you can clearly se that the original anime length of a theme song is 1.30. Does anyone know why?

if ure talkin about cn's cuts they claim to be aproriate animation cuts, course sometimes this is used just for more commercials by cutting the length of previews, completely cutting the eyecatch out, and shortening the ending credits.

if ur talkin about actual uncut opening scenes i dont know but the opening for X is 1:20.35 without including the vision that comes before it while eva is 1:30. I'm just going to assume the creators didn't want the song to keep going after all the footage had been shown so we wouldn't be lookin at a blank screen waiting for the song to end.hope this helps

Finally, I was wondering when someone would get around to making a thread like this.

I have a question, is there like a place I can get the meanings to all those suffixes and stuff like chan, senpai and stuff? I know what those mean, but I'm wondering if there's a site.

this is the only place i know of also note that this guy has some good reviews and AMVs.

ok my question:

Why is it that in some anime (im thinking Chobits here but several other animes apply), have the male character nose bleed whenever they see something 'perverted'. I dont recall anyone in real life suffering a nose bleed when looking at nudity.

here is an explenation on it:
blood pressure rises in a person's head when s/he blushes from thinking/seeing something perverted, a blood vessel bursts in the person's nose, and voila! Nosebleed!

its just an anime thing, like falling over when someone does something stupid, or eyes going all watery and big to emphisise cuteness. i mean, noone in reall life falls over when something stupid happens.

Since that isn't my research... I can't guarantee that the answer is correct... but I'm fairly positive. Feel free to correct it if it's wrong.

Just to elaborate on that, i found another site that has a bit more about suffixes on, and is generally a better site (because it doesn't have all them pointless images and huge-ass navigation buttons on )

This might sound strage, but I haven't actually seen this:

Has there ever been a boy uppercutting a girl into the stratosphere? I'm sure there has somewhere but I have yet to see it.

Ah right, if it's girls hitting boys then i have an example. In Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (episode 3), Arumi hits Sasshi with a harisen (big paper fan) into space...here's the result

Yeah, but I want to know about boys uppercutting girls into the stratosphere. I've never seen it. Ever.

Femals don't get beated enough. Everyone should get an equal amount of beatings. Especially females. They're more equal than males.

thats what fighting games are for

personally gg is da only fighting game i like cuz it makes my hands hurt
like the old saying no pain no gain

Not working for me...

I have a question on suffixes. What does -donno mean? I've heard it in Kenshin and Ai Yori Aoshi.
Also from Ai Yori Aoshi, Tina says Chika-rin and Tae-chin. Do they actually mean anything?
