Financing a business. Owner's Equity or Additional Partners/Investors?

I'm doing an assignment on starting my own hypothetical business. And I've decide on a company as my Business Structure. I now have to choose what I will do to finance my business. But I'm a bit confused of whether to do Owner's Equity or Additional Partners/Investors... can I do both? What I really want is to be able to be the owner and director of the business but also have other people investing in my company. What should I do, and why?
