hi i am due to start college in september on an access to teacher trainin cousre and iv beed lookin ahead as i will need to apply for uni in january but i was wonderin if anyone knew what financial support i would get through uni as a single mum?? i wouldnt be able to take on a job as well as uni and being a single mum, so im startin to worry now that maybe i just wont be able to afford to do it (and i sooo want to) would i get help with housing, council tax, and would i be entiteled to any state benefits?? please help!! oh and i live in the uk! so things would probably be different from the us thanks xx

Hi Gail,

As a full time student you would definitely be exempt from council tax. There are hardship funds available and also maybe a grant (although you would need to check this with you university). Additionally student loans.

Your uni will always be able to offer support and advice and if they can't help you could always try citizens advice bureau to point you in the right direction.

Good luck and enjoy the uni experience!
