Financial responsibilities of the boyfriend?

My son got his "then girlfriend" pregnanct. Things are not going well. The baby is not do til Dec. She refuses to work and is insisting that my son should support her financially now! She is threatening to file some sort of papers on him if he does not support her financially. My son has no problems what so ever about his financial responsibilities as a father once the child is here. My question is, does he have any LEGAL responsibility to her at this point. If so what? What papers could she file on him if he does not support her....? If not what should he do to get her off his back about this? Please help, he can't afford an attny and we don't want to go to one just to clear this up. I'm sure he will be needing one in the near future as it is. Thanks to all that can help!
